Adding and managing competitors
LiveMentions can show you not just how your own brand performs in AI answers, but how you stack up against competitors in the same answers.

Letting AI find competitors for you
Click Find More Competitors on the Competitors page. LiveMentions researches your market and suggests real competitors it can verify. It will not guess or invent names. Each AI discovered competitor is labeled with an AI badge.
This also runs automatically once, shortly after you finish onboarding a new project.
Adding a competitor manually
- Click Add Competitor.
- Enter the competitor name and URL.
- Click Add.
Manually added competitors are labeled Manual and are not tracked by default. You will need to track them explicitly, see below.
Track versus Ignore
Every competitor card has a Track or Ignore option.
Track guarantees this competitor a row in your Dashboard Brand Presence comparison, so you can watch them consistently even if AI has not happened to mention them recently.
Ignore stops comparing this competitor. They are not deleted, just excluded from comparisons. You can track them again anytime.
Note that competitors do not have to be explicitly tracked to show up in your results at all. If a competitor comes up organically in an AI answer to one of your prompts, they will appear in that prompt results and in Brand Presence regardless. Tracking just guarantees they are always included in the comparison.
Position and visibility
Each competitor card shows a Visibility percentage and Position, where 1 is best. Early on, these are LiveMentions best estimate from initial research. Once your tracked prompts have actually returned AI answers that mention a competitor, these numbers update to reflect their real, rolling average performance in your results.
Compare more than visibility
Your tracked competitors also appear in two other places. The Competitors tab of Crawlability compares your robots.txt with theirs, bot by bot (see Crawlability: the URL tester and competitors). Gap analysis shows which of them are named on the pages AI relies on without naming you (see Gap analysis).
