Onboarding: setting up your first project
After verifying your email and starting your trial, LiveMentions walks you through a short guided setup to get your first project tracking. It has three quick steps.

Step 1: Brand info
Tell LiveMentions about the brand you want to track.
- Brand name. How your brand is referred to. This is what LiveMentions looks for in AI answers.
- Brand URL. Your website domain.
- Location. The country your brand primarily serves. This gives AI models the right context when they answer.
When you submit this step, LiveMentions immediately looks at your website and researches your brand, then suggests 5 topics relevant to your business.
Step 2: Review topics
A topic is a theme or problem space your customers care about, not a specific product, and not your brand name. For example, if you sell accounting software, a topic might be Small Business Bookkeeping, not Your Product Pricing.
- Review the 5 suggested topics and keep the ones that fit your business.
- Add your own topics if you want to track something the suggestions missed.
- You can select up to 10 topics in total, and must keep at least 1.
Once you continue, LiveMentions generates a handful of realistic customer questions, called prompts, for each topic you kept.
Step 3: Review prompts
For each topic, you will see a set of suggested prompts, real questions a potential customer might ask an AI assistant. You can keep or remove suggested prompts, or write your own custom prompts for any topic.
You will notice most suggested prompts do not mention your brand by name. That is intentional. These test whether AI recommends you organically when someone has not already heard of you. A smaller number of prompts do name your brand directly, to see how AI discusses you when asked about you specifically.
What happens after you finish
Once you confirm your prompts, LiveMentions starts running your prompts against the AI models available on your plan, automatically researches and suggests competitors to track, and runs your first Optimize analysis of your website.
This takes a little while. Your dashboard will show a short setting up state and fill in automatically as results come in, usually within a couple of minutes.
Adding more projects later
If you track more than one brand, you can add additional projects from Settings, then Projects, at any time. Adding a project skips the full wizard and goes straight into a shorter topic and prompt setup for that project. See Projects: tracking a brand or domain.
