Connecting Slack
LiveMentions can post your alerts — a visibility drop, a competitor pulling ahead, a new AI mention — directly into a Slack channel of your choice, in addition to (or instead of) email. It's a one-way connection: LiveMentions sends messages into Slack, nothing more. There's no bot to install, no permissions to grant inside Slack beyond the one channel you pick, and nothing in Slack can control your LiveMentions account.
Under the hood, this uses a Slack Incoming Webhook — a private URL that only posts messages to the one channel you connect it to. Setting one up takes about two minutes.
Who has access
Slack alerts are available on all paid LiveMentions plans. Trial and beta accounts don't have access to this yet — upgrading unlocks it immediately.
Setting up a Slack webhook
You'll do this part inside Slack, once:
- Go to api.slack.com/apps and sign in with your Slack workspace.
- Click Create New App, then choose From scratch.
- Give it a name (e.g. "LiveMentions Alerts") and select the workspace you want alerts in. Click Create App.
- In the left sidebar, click Incoming Webhooks.
- Toggle Activate Incoming Webhooks on.
- Scroll down and click Add New Webhook to Workspace.
- Choose the channel you want your LiveMentions alerts posted to, then click Allow.
- You'll see a webhook URL that starts with
https://hooks.slack.com/services/.... Copy it — you'll paste it into LiveMentions next.
Connecting LiveMentions to Slack
- In LiveMentions, go to Settings → Integrations.
- Click the Slack card.
- Paste the webhook URL you copied and click Connect.
- LiveMentions sends a real confirmation message into that Slack channel right away, so you'll know immediately if it's working.
That's it — your account is now connected.
What gets sent to Slack
Once connected, these alerts can go to Slack (all are on by default):
- Visibility dropped — your AI visibility fell sharply compared to the previous week.
- Competitor pulling ahead — a competitor you track gained meaningfully on you.
- New citing domain found — an AI answer cited a new source about your brand for the first time.
- First results are in — a new project just got its first real tracking results.
- Weekly summary — a weekly digest of your AI visibility across every project.
Choosing which alerts go where
Go to Settings → Notifications. Each alert has its own Email and Slack switches, side by side — turn either on or off independently. For example, you could keep the weekly summary in your inbox but send day-to-day alerts to Slack instead, or send everything to both.
Managing or disconnecting
Go back to Settings → Integrations → Slack any time to:
- Send a test message — confirms the connection is still working.
- Disconnect — LiveMentions immediately stops posting to that channel. You can reconnect at any time, to the same channel or a different one.
Keep your webhook safe
Anyone with your webhook URL can post messages into that Slack channel, so treat it like a password — don't share it or paste it anywhere public. If you ever think it's been exposed, disconnect it in LiveMentions and set up a fresh one in Slack (Incoming Webhooks → Add New Webhook to Workspace) to get a new URL.
Troubleshooting
I connected, but I don't see the confirmation message. Double check you picked the correct channel when creating the webhook in Slack, and that you copied the whole URL (it should start with https://hooks.slack.com/services/).
I disconnected by accident. No problem — just reconnect using the same webhook URL if you still have it, or create a new one in Slack and connect that instead.
Can I send alerts to more than one channel? Not yet — each account connects to one channel at a time. You can switch channels anytime by disconnecting and reconnecting with a different webhook URL.
Does this cost anything? No — Slack alerts are included on every paid plan at no extra charge.
Will this ever post to a channel I didn't choose? No. The webhook you create in Slack is locked to the one channel you picked when you set it up — LiveMentions can't change or choose a different one.
