Knowledge base
The knowledge base holds the material with your real facts: policies, pricing details, product documents, help pages. Open it from Brand Context, then Knowledge base. Adding to it is part of the paid plans.
Four ways to add material
Upload files. PDF, Word (.docx), text, Markdown and CSV files, up to 10 MB each. You can choose several at once.
Paste text. Give the text a name and paste it, up to 50,000 characters. This is the place for anything that does not live on a web page.
Scrape pages. Paste web addresses, one per line, up to 50 at a time. LiveMentions reads the text of each page and stores it.
Crawl website. Start from your sitemap or from a start address. LiveMentions follows the pages of your website and stores the text of each, up to 300 pages in one crawl (50 by default). You can limit a crawl with Only these folders and Never these folders, for example /docs or /blog. A crawl runs in the background, so you can keep working.
Pages are read as plain text. No AI is used to read them, and a website's robots.txt is respected: pages that ask not to be read are skipped.
Your own website only
Scrape and crawl accept your own website: the domain of your project, with or without www, and its subdomains such as docs.yoursite.com. Other websites are not accepted. To add information from anywhere else, paste the text or upload a file.
The crawl address box starts filled in with your website.
Reading the list
Items are grouped by where they came from: Files, Pasted text, Scraped pages and Crawled pages. Choose a tab to see one group, and use the filter box to find an item by name or web address. The list shows ten items at a time, with Previous and Next below it.
Each item shows its type, size and the date you added it. Pages still being read show Processing; a page that could not be read shows why.
Still true. Choose it on an item once you have checked it. Items that have not been confirmed for about three months show Due for a look, so your material does not go stale.
Download and delete. An uploaded file can be downloaded again from its row, and any item can be deleted. The Website crawls card lists your recent crawls. Choose Delete N pages on a crawl to remove every page that crawl added; the confirmation names the website and the number of pages, and pages from other crawls, scraped pages, files and pasted text stay.
Search your knowledge
The search box shows the few passages that match a question, the same passages an assistant would be given. Try a question such as "what is your refund policy?". A page only appears when it contains the words of your question, so a search with no match says that nothing in your knowledge base matches.
Limits for each project
- Up to 20 files and 100 MB of files
- Up to 500 pages (scraped and crawled together)
- Up to 25 MB of stored text
- Up to 5 website crawls a month
- Up to 20 scrape or crawl submissions a day
Meters at the top of the page show how much of each limit you have used.
How your material is used
The knowledge base is used when LiveMentions writes for you, in the same places as Brand Context, and when a connected assistant asks for it through MCP. It is never added to the questions LiveMentions sends to AI engines, so your visibility data is not affected.
Uploaded files are stored privately. A download link works for one minute. Deleting a project also deletes its knowledge base, including uploaded files.
If your account moves off a paid plan, you can still see and delete everything already in the knowledge base. Adding new material needs an active paid plan.
